 Teri Murphy, PhD, LMFT

Certified EFT Therapist & Supervisor  *  AAMFT Approved Supervisor

Teri's passion is helping couples get un-stuck and spark the connection we all are hardwired to desire. She believes wholeheartedly in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).  EFT provides a map for how couples get disconnected and a specific path to getting out of distress and back into the safety of our partner’s presence.  She is a Licensed Marital and Family Therapist (License #1031) in Tennessee and an EFT Certified Therapist and Supervisor Candidate through the International Centre for Excellence in EFT (ICEEFT).  She is also an approved American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Supervisor and enjoys working with developing clinicians.

Teri uses EFT because it gets to the heart of couples’ issues – creating a lasting bond and healing attachment injuries.  EFT is strongly backed by research and is effective for couples and families. According to EFT outcome studies, 90% of couples report significant improvements in their relationships and 70-76% report resolution of their relational distress.

Upon receiving her undergraduate degree in chemistry, she served for four years as an active duty Air Force officer in satellite and rocket systems development at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California.  While in LA, she graduated from Webster University with her MBA and taught on base as a contractor. She loved her students and was fascinated by the stories of the people in her classroom.  Over the next few years, she realized her calling was to therapy.

Teri received her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University and her PhD in Clinical Counseling: Education and Supervision.  She's currently a professor in the Graduate Counseling department at Trevecca, teaching counselor education to students learning to become therapists and counselors.  In addition to her certification in EFT, she completed the Basic Training in EMDR in 2015 and is a member of EMDRIA.  She's a member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), the Association for Counselor Educators and Supervisors (ACES), the American Counseling Association (ACA), as well as ICEEFT.

While she's away from work, she enjoys all things scientific, reading, yoga, and spending time with her husband and two children.
